Verinag, nestled in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir at the foothills of the Pir Panjal Range, is a destination renowned for its natural beauty and historical significance. It is famous for the Verinag Spring, the primary source of the Jhelum River (Vyeth), which flows from a deep blue pool enclosed by an octagonal stone basin and a Mughal-era arched colonnade.

The spring and its surrounding gardens were first developed by Emperor Jahangir in the early 17th century and later enhanced by Shah Jahan, who designed the classic Mughal-style Charbagh garden. The gardens feature tall chinar trees, lush lawns, and flowing water channels, creating a peaceful setting perfect for picnics, strolls, and relaxation.

Verinag is also valued for its historical and architectural heritage, with Persian inscriptions on garden walls reflecting its Mughal legacy. The spring’s crystal-clear, cold waters remain refreshing even during the summer months.

Located about 80 km from Srinagar and 26 km from Anantnag, Verinag is easily reachable by road. The best time to visit is from April to October, when gardens are in full bloom. Autumn transforms the landscape with golden chinar leaves, while winter blankets the area in serene snow, offering a tranquil retreat.
